We have the knowledge to carry out ADAS calibrations to the Camera & Radar systems of all models of Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen and Skoda.

Every German Auto ADAS calibration is fully guaranteed, and comes with a comprehensive calibration report and a certificate of calibration.

What is ADAS?

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems or ADAS are all the technologies in your modern German vehicle that to enhance its safety and driving ease.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems use the camera, radar, and lidar sensor inputs to monitor your vehicle’s distance from objects such as cars, pedestrians, and cyclists, as well as detecting road markings and signs.

The systems can then alert drivers when danger is imminent, and apply corrective or avoidance steering and braking assistance in an emergency.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems include:

  • Autonomous emergency braking (AEB)
  • Adaptive cruise control (ACC) including Mercedes-Benz Distance Pilot DISTRONIC
  • Lane departure warning (LDW) and lane-keeping assist (LKA)
  • Front and rear park assist
  • Reversing cameras
  • Adaptive headlights
  • Blind-spot monitors (BSM)
  • Camera, radar, and lidar sensors

Why does ADAS need calibration?

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems need to be calibrated when any of the highly sensitive ADAS or related vehicle components has changed, to ensure the system continues to function safely.

One of the main causes of incorrect ADAS operation is when the position of an ADAS camera or radar changes as a result of a frontal impact.

For instance, when an ADAS system is not calibrated for the pitch of the camera, it can miscalculate the distance to an object in front of the vehicle.

And when an ADAS system is not calibrated for the yaw of the camera, it can incorrectly predict the centre line of the vehicle.

When does an ADAS system need calibration?

An Advanced Driver Assistance System can need calibration when:

  • The vehicle’s windscreen is replaced, because correct ADAS function is dependent on precise positioning of the windscreen-mounted forward-facing ADAS camera and interconnected radar.
  • A camera or radar unit is removed or installed
  • The vehicle is damaged in an accident, such as a front or rear collision, even if it’s as minor as hitting a car park concrete limit bar in some cases.
  • New suspension springs or shocks are fitted to the vehicle
  • A significant change is made to the factory wheel alignment

How can I tell my car’s Advanced Driver Assistance System needs calibration?

When your car has an ADAS problem and needs a calibration or repair it will display a warning message in the instrument cluster, such as:

    • Front Assist Unavailable
    • ACC System Fault
    • ACC Front assist
    • Braking Guard Unavailable
    • ACC Radar sensor
    • Lane assist
    • Blind spot

What does German Auto do as part of an ADAS calibration?
